Job description
The Natural Resources Stewardship Programme (NatuReS), funded by BMZ (the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) and co-funded by Department for International Development (DFID), is implemented by GIZ in several countries.
NatuReS promotes corporate natural resources stewardship and multi-stakeholder collective action for more sustainable management of natural resources, especially those resources that are linked to water. NatuReS aims to strengthen and support local partnerships to address shared water-related natural resources risks. The Kampala Pollution Taskforce is one of NatuReS Uganda flagship partnerships. The programme is supporting partner institutions to strengthen collective action for a pollution free Greater Kampala that safeguards water and environmental resources while fostering inclusive growth and prosperity.
Your tasks
- Develop a sustainable Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area (GKMA) plastic recycling strategy in consultation with different local government entities and the Ministry of Water and Environment
- Build capacities of key personnel at local government and ministry level on implementation of recycling and public private partnership strategies
- Advise on Behaviour Change Campaigns
- Support the implementation of plastic recycling projects and activities across the GKMA
- Evaluate and establish suitable recycling models across the GKMA
- Advise on necessary policy to facilitate further growth of the recycling sector
Your profile
- University degree in waste management, urban planning, environmental engineering or another relevant subject
- At least 2 years of experience of developing public private partnerships
- Knowledge of waste infrastructure and management
- Experience of working in or with government bodies in Europe or Africa
- Motivation, openness, teamwork and communication skills
- Analytical and structured method of working
- Excellent spoken and written English language skills
- In addition you hold the German nationality or the nationality of a member state of the European Union
