About Engineers Without Borders - USA
Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA) is a dynamic non-profit organization based in Denver, Colorado. EWB-USA in Uganda provides technical and engineering support to government and non-governmental institutions where there is an identified capacity gap. EWB-USA in Uganda collaborates with partners in the sectors of Water, Energy, Environment, Structures, Agriculture, and Disaster Response. Established in 2002, EWB-USA has over 16,000 members engaged in 600 projects around the world.
Description
The Uganda Program Engineer is responsible for coordinating partner programs in collaboration with the Country Director, and providing technical support to volunteers and local partners, following local guidelines, standards and procedures. The Program Engineer is also responsible for overseeing project implementation in the field, as well as providing capacity building components to our partners. Together with the Uganda Country Director, he/she will be responsible for assuring quality for all projects implemented in the country.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all engineering related activities in country programs assuring quality service delivery.
- Contribute to program development.
- Coordinate EWB-partner programs.
- Provide technical and engineering support to partners.
- Develop and Deliver manuals, guidelines, and training materials for partners and partner programs.
- Provide reporting in accordance with country office and partner requirements.
- Establish and maintain relationships with relevant governmental institutions.
- Review and advise on current EWB projects.
- Coordinate EWB projects with local partners, volunteers and US based coordinators as needed.
- Support educational and training activities implemented by EWB-USA for partner programs regionally.
Required Qualifications include:
- Ugandan national with a master’s degree in engineering in the areas of water, civil, environmental, electrical.
- Registered Engineer.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Senior Manager/Program Director in a humanitarian/ development context.
- Proven experience coordinating large development infrastructure projects, especially in WASH sector, and with a range of implementing partners.
- Strong project management skills, including prioritizing tasks and problem-solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide spectrum of stakeholders.
- A passion for EWB-USA’s mission in a way that motivates and our members and staff.
- Highly developed ability to work independently within a strong teamwork ethos, as well as collaboratively with colleagues to achieve common goals.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written (in English and Luganda or Swahili).
- Computer literacy, including Microsoft Suite and Google Suite.
- Driver’s license.
