Photographer
1.Background and context
Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent humanitarian organization working to provide durable solutions and promote human security. In Uganda, DRC works in North, North-Western, South-Western and North-Eastern regions in a range of emergency/development support for the refugees and communities in need with the aim of saving lives by providing protection and humanitarian assistance, and creating livelihoods (for more information go to www.drc.dk)).
2.Purpose
Through high quality digital photography, the consultant will be expected to produce high pictures that showcase the impact of the work of the ECHO consortium in refugee settlements in the West Nile region. The photos must be in a format that is usable online—on websites and social media platforms. The successful candidate will be expected to exercise full compliance with DRC programming, financial, procurement and administrative rules, regulations, policies and strategies, as well as implementation of the effective internal control systems.
3.Key Responsibilities
The photographer will produce between 50-100 high quality photos (with captions) from field visits conducted during the period of assignment. He/she will also be expected to produce at least 2-3 photo-stories with between 7-10 photos. Other deliverables include: a detailed timeline, work plan, a budget and an outline on how he/she will successfully accomplish the task.
3.1.Scope of consultancy
The photographer will visit various project locations in refugee settlements in the West Nile region. During these visits, he/she will be expected to take photos that capture the impact of the intervention of the ECHO consortium.
3.2.Key deliverables/outputs
A clear work plan; 50-100 high quality photos; 2-3 photo stories. Photos and photo stories must all have clear captions.
4.DRC’s responsibilities
DRC will provide travel and accommodation at field level (Arua, Adjumani and Moyo districts) and travel from/to Kampala (by car).
5.Reporting Arrangements
The Consultant will report to and work closely with DRC’s Advocacy & Communication Coordinator.
6.DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT
The outputs must be submitted to DRC till 30 April 2018.
7.EXPECTED PROFILE OF CONSULTANT
The ideal candidate must be technically competent in use of photography equipment and software; have an eye for human interest stories and have experience in producing high quality photography in a refugees/internally displaced persons’ context. The consultant should also have experience in working with international NGOs.
8.TERMS & CONDITIONS
The assignment will be field based (West Nile).

v. Contacts of three organizations that have recently contracted you to carry out similar assignment.
