Gender and Youth Adviser, Uganda
ACDI/VOCA is currently seeking a Gender Advisor for the anticipated USAID Title II Development, Food Assistance Program (DFAP) in Uganda. This multi-year, is integrated with USAID strategies to improve and sustain the food and nutrition security of vulnerable populations through work at the individual, household and systems level to address the underlying causes of chronic food insecurity and strengthen transformative opportunities. The Gender Advisor will lead gender integration across the different technical components throughout the entire award period.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other staff to ensure gender and youth are integrated properly throughout the program areas and is in accordance with USAID’s youth and gender strategy.
- Lead all youth and gender activities under the project and collaborate with all partners involved.
- Advise the program on the potential impact—either positive or negative—of project activities on access to and control over resources and benefits for boys, girls, men or women.
- Ensure that equitable participation and input from women and men from different age and socio-economic groups is implemented in project activities.
- Advise project activities on strategies to reduce and prevent gender-based violence (GBV)
- Strengthen service data/monitoring to ensure that youth and gender inequities are tracked and appropriate response strategies are implemented; organize/support regular monitoring among local districts, NGO/CBO partners, and service providers; analyze and report on program and project progress.
- Prepare and conduct trainings on youth and gender topics for staff and beneficiaries.
- Build community-based youth leadership into activity designs.
- Manage a team of field office based Gender and Youth Specialists.
Qualifications:
- A university degree in sociology, economics, agriculture economics or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Eight (8) years or more of progressively responsible work experience demonstrating experience conducting gender and gender analysis and gender integration programming, including with on-the-ground participatory approaches to research.
- Experience managing teams of two (2) or more staff.
- Demonstrated in-depth understanding of gender, age, and other socio-cultural factors in the context of food security programming in Uganda;
- Demonstrated capacity to lead the collection, analysis, and utilization of information from a broad range of sources in order to ensure effective integration of gender and youth concerns throughout the project’s duration; and
- Ability to foster commitment and build capacity among activity staff and in-country actors to gender integration and empowerment.
- Experience with USAID-funded projects preferred.
- Strong English language written and oral communication skills are required.
