Program / Department Summary
Mercy Corps has been operating in Uganda since 2006 and works to catalyze change makers within the Ugandan private sector, civil society and government to create economically dynamic, healthy and secure communities. Our works focus on building resilience and enable economic growth, improve opportunities to attain better health and nutrition, and improved governance and conflict management. We implement programs in the Acholi, West Nile and Karamoja as well as eastern Uganda with funding from USAID, US Department of State, Sida, SDC, DFID, ECHO, as well as other private donations.
Mercy Corps is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Innovation facilitator for the DFID funded 14-months program on Market system development. The project has 7 partners each focusing on their own part of the project. Two Innovation Centers have been built in Bidibidi refugee settlement. The first focuses on agriculture as a platform for developing farming as a business and off-farm microenterprise. The second focuses on technology and social enterprise to engage new opportunities for employment, with support around digital literacy, linkages to employment through a skills mapping and job placement platform, and engagement of existing and new social enterprise concepts that offer employment while also solving social challenges. The third innovation Center is based in Rhino camp and focuses on agroforestry. This position of innovation facilitator will be working at the second innovation center in zone 4 Bidibidi.
General Position Summary
Mercy Corps is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Innovation Facilitator. The innovation facilitator will manage, guide and coordinate activities at the center and supports, logistics planning, community mobilization and support in activity planning and implementation together with the partners both working at the innovation center and within Bidibidi Zone 4. Specific activities will include: Coordinate, schedule, and oversee all activities at the innovation center, plan together with partner’s different activities, create an internal and external communication plan, gather qualitative and quantitative data, opens and closes the center daily, makes sure the center is clean, take and maintain clear store records of items in the center, support in community mobilization for partner activities, support in translations during trainings and other activities. S/he will be a creative, action-oriented problem solver with strong organizational skills.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Essential functions
- Coordinate, schedule, and oversee all activities implemented by partners at the innovation center
- Takes custody of assets and maintains clear record of assets in the innovation center
- Opens and close the innovation center daily
- Create a communication and activity plans together with the innovation partners.
- Support in community mobilization and translations during trainings and other activities.
- Maintain cleanliness at the center.
- Offers support to all visitors and implementing partners
- Offers support to IT basic help desk
Creates rules and regulations at the center and makes sure all visitors follow them
Documentation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
Tracks attendance and gathers qualitative and quantitative data
Prepare and submit timely weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports that will be indicative of program progress during implementation. Respond to queries if and when necessary.
Maintain proper filing system with activity reports and attendance lists.
Collaboration/Networking
Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps Uganda and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
Maintain and establish relationship with partners working within the settlement.
Any other related duties assigned

The Innovation center guard.
Accountability:
Reports Directly to: Senior Program officer
Works Directly with: MEL Officer/assistant, Program officers and assistant, and operation teams

Knowledge and Experience
· Diploma in social sciences, agriculture, market development, economics, IT. Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field is preferred:
· Background in humanitarian response preferred.
· Good writing, communication, organization, prioritization and negotiating skills.
· Good (English and Local language Bari, Aringa or Arabic) verbal and written communication skills.
· Computer literacy with a full knowledge of office applications.
· Proactive, problem-solving action orientation is essential.
· Good networker and has experience in working with diverse populations

The ideal candidate is/will be living in the refugee settlement Bidibidi zone 4. S/he will be an excellent communicator, have a strong sense of humor, multi-tasker, and able to work difficult and often stressful environments. S/he will be committed to the work of Mercy Corps and the objectives of this program. They will demonstrate their dedication with a strong work ethic, attention to detail and creative problem solving.
