Roles and responsibilities:
- The overall job purpose is to improve the quality of persons with disabilities through Rehabilitation, Community awareness about disability related issues, rights promotion & inclusion. The position Holder works as a field communications assistant to the CBM Field Communications Office by: Identifying new clients in need of services provided by CoRSU Hospital or Mengo Eye Department and who are suitable for the CBM Representative Child Sponsorship Programme (RCS) or for other CBM donor communication.
- Conducting appropriate referrals of CBM/RCS clients and other CWDs.
- Ensuring that respective clients and their families/communities understand and are aware of the purpose of collecting stories, pictures, video - and give their written consent (signing of CBM consent forms).
- Following up CBM/RCS clients at their home frequently (before and during their rehab) and together with CBM Field Communications Team while ensuring that their home records are updated.
- Providing updates about development of clients (also in case any problems/roadblocks occur) to CBM Field Communications Team.
- Being available for interviews/filming/pictures of CBM Field Communications Team.
- Being available to accompany CBM visitors to the field (especially CBM MA delegates who want to gather stories/pictures etc. themselves) - and help to prepare their visit together with CBM Field Communication Team based at CoRSU.
- Networking and collaborating with other actors in the CBR program area to enable persons with disabilities access services offered.
- Monitoring CBM/RCS children in schools to access progress and offer necessary technical advice to the teachers.
- Participate in the documentation of CBM fundraising materials.
- Carry out patient social assessments and plan appropriate interventions
- Providing pre & post counselling services and coping strategies to CWDs, parents and caregivers while at the Hospital
- Sensitizing the concerned parents about RCS programme activities and their expected roles.
- Aiding referral of patients in need of Psychotherapy while at the Hospital
- Identifying child safeguarding issues and discuss with the focal person
- Submitting monthly reports and Statistics to Head of Department on a monthly basis
- Ensuring understanding and adherence to the child safe guarding policy and children’s Rights;
- Coordinating and participate in the information, education and communication (IEC) training sessions for clients, attendants and caregivers.
- Facilitating the process of assigning attendant prefects and liaises with them and the nurses.
- Participating in resolving disputes between attendants in liaison with other hostel staff.
- Participating in ward rounds where appropriate.
- Conducting discharge sessions for patients and care givers.
- Conducting monthly meetings with patients and caregivers admitted at CoRSU to generate feedback on services at the Hospital
- Sensitizing patients and care givers on child safe guarding in the community and identifying related issues and report them to the Child Safe guarding Focal Person
- Disseminating of child safeguarding materials to patients, caregivers, partners and other Community Members
Academic & Professional qualifications
Essential: University degree preferably in Fundraising, Grants Proposal writing, Project Planning & Management or any other relevant field
Desirable: Project planning and management qualification.
Work experience & skills
Essential:
- 3 years’ experience in funding proposal writing and a proven track record of writing successful grants.
- Project and program management proved experience
- Thorough knowledge of MS Office, programme management software
- Excellent writing, communication, presentation and social skills
Desirable:
- Experience in working in the NGO/Not-for-Profit sector with proven track record of strategic planning, proposal writing and budgeting for institutional donors. (Experience with EU or USAID funding an advantage).
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Good understanding of disability.
- Multi lingual skills and willingness to work beyond expected hours.
