In Uganda, ZOA has offices in Kampala, West Nile (Arua), Acholi (Nwoya), and Karamoja (Amudat). ZOA Uganda works both in relief and recovery on the themes of food security & livelihoods, WASH, primary/accelerated/vocational education, and conflict management with a special focus on land security.
About the position
The Senior Project Officer, with support from the Project Manager, is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing the activities under the Land Security and Economic Development project in the two target sub-counties in Nwoya District.
Major responsibilities:
- Plans for and implements project activities in relation to agriculture and agri-business to achieve optimal project outputs and outcomes in line with ZOA/donor procedures and targets. This has to be done in close collaboration with the project team members that focus on land security related activities to link the project components and identify synergies;
- Mobilizes and guides the farmers to form groups, networks and supports the network formalization i.e. establishing the leadership structure, constitutions, by-laws, registration with the Community Development Office and opening of bank accounts;
- Guides together with Community Link Agents farmer groups through long learning programs/activities;
- Writes and submits comprehensive monthly progress reports, and specific activity reports, and any other reports when necessary to his/her supervisor in a timely manner;
- Develop annual project activity plans, updated quarterly in collaboration with key departments and external stakeholders, and oversee implementation to high standards by scope and timelines;
- Document project progress including collecting and reporting monitoring and evaluation data;
- Any other duty official assigned by the supervisor in line with the project.
Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Attitude:
Knowledge & Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Agriculture or other relevant field;
- At least 3 years successful experience in a similar position implementing agriculture and agri-business related projects with a focus on dynamics related to gender and vulnerable community members.
- Competence in agro-business plan development and cost-benefit analysis is a must.
- Climate Smart Agriculture experience is an added advantage.
- Understanding of customary land tenure in Acholi an added advantage;
- Excellent spoken and written command of English and Luo.
Skills:
- Good communication, writing and facilitation skills;
- Innovative, creative and enthusiastic;
- Provides regular feedback, acknowledges success and the need for improvement with Community Link Agents;
- Good computer skills: Ms Excel and Ms Word;
- Self-motivator, able to work with limited supervision;
- Ability to drive a motorcycle with valid driving/riding license.
Attitude:
- Flexibility and adaptability;
- Interpersonal and cross-cultural sensitivity;
- Able to work under pressures and meet deadlines;
- Able to work in a sometimes fluid and innovative environment;
- Aims to integrate and reflect Christian values in rehabilitation work.
