GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mechanic is responsible for ensuring that all the organization fleet in general including motor vehicles, and Generators and motorbikes in particular in Karamoja region are in good working condition. Working closely with Field Transport officer, Operations, Programs, Administration and Finance, the Mechanic is instrumental in supporting program activities through his/her services. The mechanic is responsible for ensuring that all repairs and maintenance are in compliance with Mercy Corps and donor requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Inspect Motorcycles i.e. engine, transmission etc. and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues.

· Ability to requisition for purchase of Motorcycle spares and check if genuine parts are obtained.

· Maintain a record of Motorcycle repairs.

· Conduct repairs aiming for maximum reliability.

· Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner.

· Perform thorough maintenance on machinery and equipment.

· Clean, apply and replenish lubricants/fluids to motorcycle components.

· Ensure spare parts are available at all times for the easy and efficient maintenance

· Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to Motorcycle or Vehicle users.

· Maintain the generators and ensure servicing is conducted in a timely fashion.

· Undertake other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:

· Proven experience as Mechanic & Technician; at least three years in Motorcycle repairs in reputable organization or Garage.

· Excellent knowledge of machinery and hydraulic, electrical and other systems and their components

· Ability to repair and maintain vehicles and generators is preferred

· Aptitude in using various hand tools (screwdrivers, hammers etc.) and precision measurement tools (e.g. calipers)

· Ability to follow established procedures and practices and read instructions, blueprints etc.

· A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines

· Very good communication skills

· A problem-solving ability

· Very good physical strength and stamina

· High school diploma is preferred; Certification from a vocational school or completion of apprenticeship in this field is a definite

· Willingness and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people

· Strong ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with project personnel

· Ability to travel to other field offices and perform maintenance functions

· Computer literate and strong organizational and planning skills.
