Background
DRC is an International non-governmental organization, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world.
In Uganda, DRC assists the refugees from neighboring countries mainly DR Congo and South Sudan in the South West, West and West Nile region of the country. DRC’s assistance to refugees have been both emergency assistance to address the short term influxes from the neighboring countries as well as to address the sustainable solutions for the refugees. DRC is also the lead of a Consortium (Save the Children, ZOA, and CEFORD) for implementation of an EU Trust Fund project in Adjumani, Kiryandongo and Rhino camp
Purpose
- The main purpose of this position is to support the quality, timely implementation of SGBV activities in compliance with DRC standards and budgets.
Case management
She/he will conduct all steps of the case management process: Intake, assessment and engagement, case planning, supported referrals, developing practical skills, case review, building client capacity.
Liaise with other stake holders for the integration back in community and access to livelihood of SGBV survivors to support their healing and reintegration process. Conduct daily visit to the protection houses and assess the needs of the survivors.
Ensure updated filing and documentation of SGBV cases in line with UNHCR and DRC standard tools.
Respond to the needs of beneficiaries, provide them information and resources to access services and make appropriate referrals to other service providers if required.
Provide individual basic psycho-social support to survivors. Determine the need for therapeutic psycho-social or psychiatric support for further referral to specialized services.
Working with ‘at risk’ young people, their families, community, and Elders to actively reconnect young people to family/careers where appropriate
Project development, implementation and reporting
- Assist the protection team in the provision of technical support to community SGBV community structures and local stakeholders.
- Assist the protection team in organizing and delivering protection trainings and promoting the refugee law on the rights of refugees and other thematic areas.
- Make sure that all the GBV interventions adhere to protection standards and principles as well as DRC guidelines and accountability standards.
- Contribute to the daily quality implementation, monitoring and evaluation of SGBV- related projects and interventions in Adjumani.
- In collaboration with the Adjumani SGBV officer will proactively contribute to quality and timely writing of weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
- Uphold DRC’s code of conduct and principles of accountability.
Support management team to:
- Follow up all DRC / DDG Procedures for Security, Finance, Logistics, HR and Administration.
- Uphold DRC’s international code of conduct
- Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
Logistics /Finance
- Support the Protection coordinator to monitor financial commitments and expenditures against budgets and provide timely feedback on budget follow ups.
- Plan and coordinate proactively logistics and movements of staff from and to different zones
Additional tasks
- On request to perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisor in order to allow the organization to function optimally.
- Adhere to the DRC code of conduct
Reporting Arrangements
The SGBV Assistant is responsible and reports to the SGBV officer based in Adjumani
Personal Specifications
Essential:
A University degree in Social Sciences, Arts and Development studies from recognized Institution.
Minimum of five (2) years’ experience in a related field.
Experience of managing and supervising staff.
Experience of working with UN or Non‐Governmental organizations.
Good communication skills and ability to conduct training and awareness.
Understanding of gender, protection and human rights.
Computer skills.
Good organizational and people management skills.
Ability to work in the field and should hold a Valid Riding license
Preferable:
- Knowledge of the local languages spoken in the operation area is an asset. Familiarity with Monitoring & Evaluation for UN-funded projects desired.
