Job Summary
Based in the SIHA office in Kampala, the Projects Officer here in referred to as ‘PO’ will be responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the SIHA project currently in the region, through a series of activities and grassroots capacity building, project mentoring and evaluation as well as the conducting of local-level advocacy, awareness, and education activities. Specific project documentation will be made available to the PO upon agreement The PO will be SIHA’s main contact point for all elements of the projects occurring in and around Uganda in addition to being involved in regional activities as requested by the SIHA Secretariat.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
Ensure efficient and effective implementation of project tasks;
Regularly monitor and evaluate Projects activities particularly in Uganda and ensuring effective outputs;
Provide financial management, ensuring transparency and accuracy in financial reporting;
Refine and monitor the project implementation time line, suggesting modifications as necessary;
Liaise with SIHA’s Regional Director (RD) and Regional Programmes Officer (RPO) and other SIHA programme staff;
Work closely with SIHA’s local-level partners in the project, supporting them in the implementation of the project or as otherwise requested by the SIHA Secretariat;
Uphold donor and SIHA reporting requirements in reference to the project;
Ensure adequate stakeholder connections are established in Uganda, and that project activities can be safely shared with various stakeholders;
Facilitate for the planning of all SIHA public and stakeholder events;
Facilitate the conduct of any and all necessary SIHA research work in Uganda.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
Act as SIHA’s contact for Uganda, alerting Regional SIHA Secretariat staff in Kampala to regional activities, events, political/social trends, and opportunities for furthering SIHA’s core objectives in Uganda and across the Horn of Africa;
Facilitate visits to the field from SIHA Secretariat staff, assisting with necessary logistic arrangements;
Participate, as requested, in SIHA meetings, trainings, events;
Liaise regularly with SIHA member organizations in Uganda, providing SIHA’s Regional Secretariat with updates and other information as needed;
Carry out other duties as deemed necessary by SIHA or SIHA’s member organizations in Uganda.
Profile
The candidate for this position should have strong knowledge and understanding of Uganda Political and economic context particularly Northern Uganda; West Nile and Karamoja regions . Added advantage is knowledge of and interest in the Horn of Africa, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Somaliland, Djibouti, Kenya and Ethiopia. A commitment to women’s rights and the principles of gender equality and interest in social movements is essential, with proven track-record on right-based programming and grassroots project management combined with filed work experience being a precondition for shortlisting. SIHA will be interested in individual applicants with commitment to women at the grassroots level and their essential role in promoting the improvement of conditions for women and girls across the Horn of Africa.
Other Requirements
a) University-level education in human rights, women’s rights, project management, development / humanitarian studies, gender studies, law, or a related field;
b) Experience working in the human rights / non-governmental organization sector, with ability to provide relevant references;
c) Strong experience in working grassroots community and ability to lead community based projects is essential
d) Strong writing skills and knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods, ability to collect and document information is central in to this post.
e) Multi-tasking skills with ability to put in extra hours during peak periods of activity;
f) Proven knowledge of local-level political / social / cultural dynamics;
g) Proven knowledge of local-level stakeholders, persons of influence, and the ability to liaise with these actors in reference to SIHA work in the region;
h) Ability to travel within Uganda and abroad as required;
i) Punctual, attentive, and enthusiastic;
